Gamepad
The app can map widget actions to an external gamepad such as an Xbox or PlayStation controller.
The gamepad does not connect directly to the robot. It controls the iPhone or iPad, and the app sends those commands to the robot.
Before you start
Make sure:
- the gamepad is paired with the same iOS device running the Dotbots app
- the robot is connected in the app
- the control card you want to use is already open
The app must stay open on the selected control screen while you use the gamepad.
How mapping works
Gamepad mapping is configured per widget.
Open a widget's settings and go to the Controller tab. Then:
- Make sure the widget action is already configured.
- Tap
Add a Controller Action. - Press the button or input on the gamepad that should trigger that widget.
Not every widget works with every gamepad input, so test each mapping after assigning it.
Active control card
The gamepad uses the widget screen that is currently open.
For example:
- if
Fighter Botis open, the gamepad usesFighter Bot - if a custom control card is open, the gamepad uses that custom layout instead
Good uses
Gamepad control is useful when you want:
- a more familiar driving setup
- physical controls for classroom demos
- a controller layout for competitive play
